Athlete and Parent Responsibilities:

Regarding Track Meets

Parents are responsible for getting their children to and from track meets. Athletes and parents traveling with others should contribute to the cost of gas, tolls, and accommodation if applicable. Your child’s coach may not be at all track meets. A designated representative of our Club will attend the meets. Find out who that person will be before the meet.

Go directly to the designated representative when you arrive at the track to check in and receive your meet sticker or competition number. Verify what events you are going to compete in, and get a good idea of what time they are to be run. Check that the meet is running on time, and make plans accordingly. When in doubt do not leave the track.

As a rule, competition numbers are worn on the front for all field events and longer distance track events. It is worn on the back for the 100m, 200m, hurdles and relays.

Acquaint yourself with the track and field area. Know where you will be competing well before your event is to begin

Arrive in plenty of time for warm-up. Follow what your personal coach has taught you at practices for meet warm up and cool downs.

Be prepared for any weather. Bring extra clothing including a change of socks, rain gear, umbrella, hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle.

Ensure that you wear your club uniform

Eating properly is sometimes more difficult when you are away from home. Remember to pack healthy snacks, water, and fruit juices.

Make sure to bring your club handbook to each meet. Parents, record your child’s official performance results.

Remember that a Personal Best can be more satisfying than winning when working towards your ultimate goal.

The coaches and athletes require help at meets, because coaches are often called upon to help with running an event. Please offer your assistance when called upon to help at the Bob Dailey Track Meet or any Island Track Meets.

During competition, your role is to encourage and support your child and other club athletes.

To build club spirit, we support as many team relays as possible. Please encourage your child to participate in relay.
