A BRIEF HISTORY…

The Alberni Valley Track & Field Club started in 1968. The track club is a youth oriented sports club, dedicated to the improvement of youth in the community, through sport. The Club is open to athletes ages 9 and older. Over the years, the AVTC has contributed significantly to providing the opportunity for athletes to train and acquire skills that will help them throughout their lifetime. Many of the AVTC parents and volunteers, both past and present not only contribute to the sport of track and field, they also volunteer their time for the benefit of other community groups, organizations and sports. We have been proud to have club members involved with the organizing and volunteering their time and talents in all four of the BC Games held here in Port Alberni.

Our Club has fostered many fine athletes who have gone on to compete nationally and internationally. While our member roster has grown and shrunk with the size of our City, we have produced many fine athletes that have represented and made Port Alberni proud.

We are known as a small City with a big heart. The strength of our club remains constant. We are a volunteer organization that believes in hard work, commitment to excellence and seeking true gold - our personal best.

CLUB PHILOSOPHY (WHY ARE WE HERE?)…

The Alberni Valley Track & Field Club promotes the welfare and enjoyment of its athletes and its community. The athlete’s personal development is always deemed important. Helping the athlete strive for the achievement of a personal best performance and developing the athlete’s character by instilling a sense of responsibility, fair play, respect for others, and self discipline are constant objectives.

The Alberni Valley Track & Field Club is committed to providing excellent coaching at all levels. Coaches are further educated and encouraged to attend workshops, clinics and seminars. The club itself will cooperate with any other society, club, association, or person for the purpose of furthering its objectives.
