Congratulations to the whole club: parents, coaches and athletes!! What an outstanding meet and a terrific contribution from so many! It was an excellent meet, thanks to you! What an incredible accomplishment when we all work together!
The Track Meet draft results are on our website, so check them please over the next two days for possible errors.
If you took any digital photos, please email them to me: smacauley@telus.net
Ribbons from our meet that were not picked up may be found in the brown envelopes in the Track Room later this week.
The Raffle Draw is this Thursday at the end of practice. Quite a few families have not handed in their raffle book
stubs and payment for the tickets.
Pen Track will offer the Saturday events that were cancelled (because
of the snow on April 19) at the Parkland track in Sidney on Saturday,
May 24, the day before they host the VIAA Pentathlon meet ( which I will explain in detail next week).
Full details are on the Pen Track
website at www.pentrack.org . There will be sign-up sheet for these two day meets in the Track Room shortly.

We will be posting the DRAFT Meet Results shortly for the 2008 Bob Dailey Memorial Track Meet .
However, please note the following:
A number of computer and software issues plagued us at this meet so the results will be in three separate files: #1 is Track Events, #2 is Racewalk and some Distance Events and #3 is Field Events and Relays with one track event which would only work on the field event computer. We cannot combine the results due to the software issues we experienced as results would be lost.
For those teams entered in the relays, please ignore the younger age listed on the relay heading and look for your team results under the age of your oldest team member.
For those school athletes entered in both track and field events, look for your results under your year of birth [1994 would be listed with the 14 year results].
For those club athletes who competed with their schools, we will use all of your meet results for VIAA Track and Series points even though you are listed as school athletes for this meet.

Please note that there have been a couple of changes for the schools competing in the North Island Championships at the Bob Dailey Meet:
From the island website:
ATHLETES WILL NOT RESTRICTED TO ONE AGE CATEGORY IN THE ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP MEET IF THEY WISH TO COMPETE IN THE OPEN CATEGORY. THUS A BANTAM OR JUNIOR AGE ATHLETE COULD COMPETE WITH SENIOR ATHLETES FROM THE SAME SCHOOL TO FORM A RELAY TEAM BUT STILL COMPETE INDIVIDUALLY IF THEY QUALIFY IN THEIR OWN AGE CATEGORY IN DIFFERENT EVENTS. A BANTAM CAN NOT MOVE TO THE JR CATEGORY FOR A RELAY;ONLY THE OPEN CATEGORY
Individual athletes may enter A TOTAL OF 3 individual events [track or field or a combination] plus 2 relays. Athletes can not run for more than one relay team however. They must choose which age class to run in for each event.
Therefore what I have concluded is that you can move a kid up to the open division in an event that they could have the possibility of qualifying for provincials or if needed for senior relay, but they can still compete in bantam or junior division in other events that they qualified for at north islands!
Plus with the age divisions, here they are from BC School Sports from the handbook:
Senior Competition: students must be under 19 as of Dec 31st of the current school year, no more than in their 5th year of eligibility, students born in 1988 or earlier are not eligible for 2007-2008, grade 8 entry date must be Sept 2003 or later
Junior Competition (grade 10): students must be under 17 as of Dec 31st of the current school year, no more than in their 3rd year of eligibility, students born in 1990 or earlier are too old for junior competition in 2007-2008, grade 8 entry date must be Sept 2005 or later
Grade 9: students must be under 16 as of Dec 31st of the current school year, no more than in their 2nd year of eligibility, students born in 1991 or earlier are not eligible for 2007-2008, grade 8 entry must be in Sept 2006 or later
Grade 8: students must be under 15 years of age as of Dec 31st of the current school year, and be in their 1st year of eligibility, students born in 1992 or earlier are too old for grade 8 competition in 2007-2008, grade 8 entry must be Sept 2007
There will be a Parent Meeting on Tuesday, April 29, just after 6pm at the track. We will meet in front of Glenwood, and can go under the overhang there if it is raining, or move inside Glenwood. We will be introducing you to the Meet Manger and Club executive, as well as having some discussions and information sharing about our meet, club clothing, how to support your athletes at meets, etc. We will also give you a 5 minute talk about officiating High Jump, which our club is responsible for at all Island Meets and therefore we all need to help with. At the end of the meeting I hope to introduce you to the club coaches who have been spending a lot of time with your child/ren. Please mark your calendar and try to attend this meeting! Thanks.
Entries and payment to Dogwood Meet are due in at the end of the practice on Thursday.
The Club raffle will be on May 8, which is the Thursday following our meet, so if you could get your tickets stubs and payment in soon, that will be helpful. Thanks.
Check our club website for regular updates on information. New items are added on a regular basis. Karrine has done a great job of fixing up the site…check out the photos! www.avtrackclub.com
Our meet is quickly approaching. Some of the jobs are still available:
We have over 200 teens coming to our meet from various schools over mid and northern Vancouver Island, and will be attempting to qualify for the Island High School Meet. It will be a very busy meet, so thank you for helping out wherever possible to make our meet a success. Some good, warm weather would certainly be an asset!
Personal Best Ribbons from the Peninsula meet will be available in the Track Room this week for those who attended that meet.
Sheila is selling club clothing and taking orders for AVTC track suits. See her at practice!
See you Tuesday at the Parent Meeting!
